Sharkbanz, the global leader in shark deterrent technology, is proud to present our partnership with surf legend Bethany Hamilton.
As both a mother of four and professional athlete, Bethany’s dedication to others and the sport of surfing is as inspiring as her overcoming the challenges of her well-known 2003 shark attack.
Life is a constant battle, and it’s important we have a place to feel energized, inspired, and connected to our planet.
The ocean is our place to be free, and we hope you join us. Since 2014, our mission has been to develop simple, effective and affordable strategies to reduce the risk of an unwanted shark encounter - providing safety and peace of mind to every beachgoer, ocean athlete, and marine professional while also promoting marine conservation and education. We want everyone to experience the ocean with the same passion and joy that we have.
Bethany Hamilton is an award-winning professional surfer, writer, and mentor who lives with her family on her native Kauai, Hawaii. In 2016, Bethany, then a new mother to her 7-month-old son, Tobias, tow-surfed into several 40-foot waves at the famous big-wave spot, Jaws, also called Pe’ahi, in Maui, Hawaii. While only a handful of other females and a select group of males have ridden waves at Jaws, those who witnessed it firsthand say Hamilton is one of the best surfers to ride that wave — ever. In 2023, 20 years after the loss of her arm, she competed the 2023 Vans Pipe Masters, another monumental moment for female surfing.
